Central Alberta
Good paths and a practical place in the middle.
A retirement shortlist can use a practical city with a very good place to go for a walk.
Red Deer supplies that combination through Bower Ponds, the Waskasoo park system and its position between Calgary and Edmonton. It gives people with family or commitments in central Alberta a clear geographic reason to look, with outdoor spaces adding a more enjoyable one. The city itself has several neighbourhood routines to compare, so a visit should include the part you might live in as well as the park that gets your attention. If you want local services, green space and a base for keeping existing Alberta connections, Red Deer is worth an unhurried research trip.
Bower Ponds is the sort of destination that can quietly become a standing appointment. The Waskasoo park and trail system gives you other routes to try, with Heritage Ranch adding another outdoor stop. Find the walks that suit you, then add a class, club or residence activity you look forward to. A week with familiar places and regular company can be pleasantly full without needing much advance planning.
