South Okanagan
Two lakes make choosing your morning walk the first job.
Penticton has placed a lake at each end of town, which is excellent planning for anyone hoping to make walking part of retirement.
Okanagan Lake and Skaha Lake frame the city, with beaches, food and nearby wine-country outings adding reasons to take your time. The Kettle Valley Rail Trail gives walkers and cyclists another option to research, and the SS Sicamous adds a museum visit with a maritime twist. You can assemble an appealing week here without treating every day as a holiday. The important choice is where to base that week: a north-end waterfront routine and a south-Penticton address will put different shops, paths and services closest to your front door.
Give both lakefronts a fair hearing before choosing your regular walk. A suitable section of the Kettle Valley Rail Trail adds another outdoor option, and the SS Sicamous offers history aboard a ship that has settled into museum life. Food stops and surrounding vineyards make a good visiting-friends itinerary. Your own week can be simpler: a favourite stretch of shore, a bench worth returning to and lunch after a walk.
